R.I.P. John Hughes

The dog days of this deathly summer are continuing today with the news that John Hughes died at the age of 59 of an apparent heart attack.  I remember as a child of the 80's growing up watching his classics teen comedies like Sixteen Candles, Ferris Buellers Day Off, and The Breakfast Club.  He has had his hand in quite a few movies of note and frankly I feel like he re-imagined the entire sub-genre of high-school dramedies.

The 90's were a bit harder on Hughes although he did have some hits in the Home Alone series, but he was never really able to achieve the same sort of relevance in pop-culture.  This summer has been brutal for celelbrity deaths and they have even killed off some of the cool guys like Billie Mays and John Hughes.  Sad.

Anyways, while most people will be remembering Hughes for his work on those 80's classics I will leave you with a clip from the original National Lampoon's Vacation; which Hughes wrote the screenplay for:
